Daoust Has Her Best Day as a Panther in Pair of Losses to Parkside

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Davenport University softball team dropped both games to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in its Friday afternoon doubleheader  at the Case Softball Complex. Sophomore Becca Daoust batted a combined 6-for-8 between the two games and has recorded nine hits over the last four games for DU.

Game 1
Result: L, 4-3 (10 Inn.)
How it Happened:
Despite having twice as many hits (14-7), the Panthers (13-28, 7-13 GLIAC) couldn't bring their baserunners home, leading to a prolonged 10-inning affair.

Lindsay Goodman scored the first run of the day for DU, advancing home off a sacrifice fly from Brooke Cowan in the top of the fourth inning.

Heading into the final inning trailing 2-1, the Davenport offense brought home two runs to take its first lead of the day when it mattered most.

Gabby Palazzolo spurred the late-game rally, starting the inning with a single down the right-field line. Later in the inning, Goodman batted in two runners (Palazzolo and Riley Hasseld) to take the 3-2 advantage.

The Rangers (15-28, 6-15 GLIAC) responded in the bottom of the seventh, scoring one run off a single hit to send the game to extra innings.

With neither team putting a run on the board in the eighth and ninth inning, Parkside took advantage of the runner being placed on second to start the 10th inning, an extra inning rule to help finish the game in a timely manner.

Hasseld led the way with three hits and a run for the Panthers, as she has now registered a hit in four straight games. Hayley Kreiger and Daoust each added three hits for DU, while Goodman chipped in with a hit, two RBIs, and a run.

In the circle, Kelsey Byers delivered 10 strikeouts through 9.2 innings pitched for Davenport, only allowing six hits.

Game 2
Result: L, 10-3
How it Happened:
Trailing 7-0 going into the sixth inning, the Panthers attempted a late-game comeback, posting three runs in the sixth inning to trim the deficit to four.

Senior Brooke Cowan started the inning with a home run over the left field fence, her third of the season which ties a career-best.

With a runner on first and a pair of outs on the board, Palazzolo hit a double to bring home Alex Rendon for the second run of the inning.

Hasseld capped off the inning, as she singled towards the shortstop, allowing Palazzolo to reach home.

Daoust led the way for DU, registering a game-high three hits. Kreiger chipped in with a pair of hits in the loss for the Panthers.

Three pitchers spent time in the circle; MaKayla Thompson, Emma Miller, and Elise Magnus, all of which combined for three strikeouts for Davenport.

Up Next:
It is a quick turnaround for the Panthers, as they will be back in action tomorrow in a doubleheader against Purdue Northwest in Hammond, Ind. at 1 p.m.
