GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's lacrosse team had one of their best wins as a program since making the jump to NCAA Division II on Saturday with a 12-10 win over visiting Rockhurst at the DU Turf Field. The senior class of nine left with a great memory as they never trailed against the Hawks who entered the game at 8-4 overall and were in second place in the GLVC. The Panthers (5-8, 2-3) tied Lewis for fourth place but did not qualify for the GLVC Tournament losing the head-to-head against the Flyers.
Senior goalkeeper
Daniel Milano became just the second Panther to eclipse 500 career saves with nine saves today. He finishes with 504 just two shy of the school record set by Zach Higgins (2009-12). Senior
Keelan McKouen had a monster game with a season-high six goals and did so on six shots on goal. Senior
James Johnston added three goals and two assists and had six shots on goal. Senior
Adam Smellie led the team with a season-high four assists. Senior
Trent Eichbauer scooped up five groundballs and caused two turnovers.
Kaden Seelye also had a strong defensive game with three caused turnovers and four groundballs.
The Panthers held their own in face-offs with 9-of-23 above their season average including three big wins in the fourth quarter as the Hawks cut the deficit down to 10-8 at the 11:41 mark. Johnston and McKouen each had substantial goals at 7:51 and 7:18 to increase the lead back up to 12-8. The Hawks scored the last two goals at 5:53 and 3:36, but Davenport gained possession and held the lead.
