GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The women's tennis team was on the road Saturday at the Park Forest Tennis Club. The Panthers were in another tight contest but their efforts came up short, as they narrowly lost to Purdue Northwest 4-3.
Â
The Panthers showed yet again that their doubles lineup is legitimate as they won the doubles point. Starting at one doubles, No. 19
Amy Bloch and
Willemien Coetzee displayed toughness as they took out Aarni Reddu Yellu and Sienna Lopez (6-4).
Skye Vandeleur and
Hermon Mikael teamed up at two doubles and they had the match under control which led to a 6-3 victory over Hayley Tsuen and Oona Kintscher.
Isabella Carofano and
Louise Hosking secured the doubles sweep, 6-2, over Mar Vilanova and Salma Raslan.
Â
Bloch fought at the one singles position, but the slow indoor conditions did not suit the South African as she dropped the match to Lopez (6-3, 4-6, 4-6). Coetzee played two singles, and faced a giant slayer in Reddu Yellu who beat Coetzee (6-3, 6-3). Vandeleur in the three singles spot, faced a fierce opponent as the match was lost 6-4, 6-1 to Kintscher. Davenport would earn two straight-set victories at four and five singles. The match was tied at 3-3 with one match remaining at six singles as
Kumiko Yamaguchi filled the spot. Yamaguchi gave it her all but was not enough as Tsuen clinched the victory, 6-4, 6-3, for the Pride.
