Women's Soccer Preview: Panthers continue home schedule against Tiffin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport women's soccer is preparing for a single match this week against Tiffin University after setting a program record to open the new season.

The Panthers finished week one undefeated after coming out on top of Quincy (5-0) and Truman State (2-0) in back-to-back home games, the first time in program history that DU has come out of week one with two wins and zero losses since joining the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 2017.

Junior forward Haley Diekevers had a great first week, coming out with two goals, two assists, and six points total in 125 minutes. Five other Panthers found the back of the net as well with freshman forward Madison Fant scoring the first official goal of the season, followed by junior defender Abi Hearn, junior forward Medina Hindic, freshman midfielder Autumn Wakefield, and sophomore forward Ainsley Oliver all adding a goal to DU's seven total.

Defensively, the Panthers saw great production from senior defender Kathryn Hoeger, sophomore defender Arianna Diemer, junior midfielder Gabby Scholten, and far more players throughout, with senior goalkeeper Gabriana Bennecke tallying back-to-back shutouts with three goals saved.

Tiffin Matchup

This week's matchup against Tiffin will be the second time in series history that DU has hosted the Dragons, with the last match in 2022 falling in favor of the Panthers in a 2-1 victory on the road. Since that match, Tiffin has bested DU in the first two matches that both occurred in the 2017 season. The Dragons came out with a double overtime victory (2-1) in the regular season and later that season ended DU's GLIAC Championship hopes early in a quarterfinals match that finished in overtime, 3-2.

Tiffin opened their season undefeated themselves in two draws against the University of Illinois Springfield and Notre Dame College - both matches finishing 1-1 with sophomore midfielder Sarah Gundler and senior forward Kaelyn Harkness being the two players to score in the first and second match respectively.
