DU posts strong effort in back-to-back road contests

| By:
KANKAKEE, Ill. - Davenport University men's D3 ice hockey showed improvement after single-digit losses at Olivet Nazarene (IL) between Oct. 11-12. The Panthers fell 4-1 and 4-3 in the weekend series.

The first contest saw DU down by a single score (2-1) with plenty of time remaining after Ethan Ring put the Panthers on the board (assist Chris Mangold). However, the Panthers couldn't muster an equalizer as the opponent added two more scores to secure game one. The following day, DU looked to steal the second contest before heading home, and a third-period lead looked like it could happen.

Steven Rushing (assist Justin Mack, Dominic Bommarito) put the Panthers on the board first to take a 1-0 lead in the first 20 minutes, as a goal by Will Soldano (assist Jared Kifer, Mack) late in the second leveled the score at 2-2 heading into the final period. Ring tucked in his second goal of the weekend (assist Carter Temple) to give DU a 3-2 advantage just under two minutes into the third as the defense held on for a large portion of the period. However, an equalizer by the Tigers was later followed by the game-winner with under five minutes to play, resulting in a win for the opponent.

Determined to secure its first victory this year (0-6-0 overall), DU will look to capitalize on home rink advantage this Saturday, Oct. 19, as they host Central Michigan University for the Panthers' final contest of October.
