KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Davenport swimming and diving teams competed in the first-ever West Michigan Invitational over the past two days with Friday's events at Hope College and Saturday's events at Kalamazoo College. The Panthers had a great deal of success with a total of 14 pool records. In addition, the men's team won the invitational and the women's team placed second.
Robby Russo pulled the daily double as he set a pool record and a school record in the three-meter, 11-dive event with a total of 288.50 points. He also placed second in the one-meter diving with a score of 253.80. Sticking with the men's pool records that were set, it was the 200 medley relay of
Owen Durham,
Owen Stender,
Marcel Setlak and
Micah Sholl with a time of 1:32.29. Sholl placed fourth in the 100 free, but his 50 split of 21.28 was a pool record.
Gerard Labernia Oms won the 1,650 free (16:14.65) and also had a 1,000 split time that set the pool record.
David Szczygiel set two pool records in the 100 fly (50.99) and 200 fly (1:50.58). Setlak competed in the 100 back (50.68) and won the event. Stender in the 100 breast had a pool record time of 55.80.
Maciej Konarski also set the pool record and won the 200 breast (2:03.03).
The women's team was also responsible for four pool records during the event.
Angie Lorena Gomez Garcia won the 1,650 free in a time of 17:24.10 and her 1,000 split also set the pool record.
Alicja Pinkowicz won the 200 back (2:02.76).
Mallory Brownrigg won the 100 breast in a time of 1:06.80 to get the pool record.
