GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport swimming and diving teams had back-to-back duals over the weekend at Wayne State and at home against Saginaw Valley State on Senior Day for the Panthers. On Friday, both teams could not defeat Wayne State with team scores of 141-78 for the men and 120-98 for the women. A few of the highlights included
Matthew Gauck (304.34) and
Parker Schut (303.53) making the national cut in the 3-meter diving. Robby Russo also made the national cut in the 1-meter diving (288.90).
The women's 200 yard medlay relay won the event with a time of 1:45.83.
Nadia Jastrzabek won the 50 free (23.86) and
Zofia Janaszek-Seydlitz finished second (24.65).
Micah Sholl placed second in the 100 fly with a time of 51.71.
Alicja Pinkowicz won the 100 fly with a time of 58.99. Janaszek-Seydlitz also won the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.25.
Abby Wampler also would finish second (1:10.22) in the same event. Sholl won the 100 breast with a time of 55.17.
On Saturday, the Panthers and Cardinals hit the pool and the ladies won 123-116, while the men won 124-119. The women's 200 yard medley relay won the event at 1:45.48. The men's 200 yard medley relay also won that event at 1:30.45. Nikita Sobchuk in the 200 free hit the national "B" cut with a time of 1:39.17 to win the event. Jastrzabek won the 50 free with a time of 23.80 and also hit the national "B" cut in the 100 free with a time of 51.86 to win the event.
Pinkowicz was able to win the 200 back with a time of 2:04.33.
Grant Sandstedt was victorious in the 100 free with a time of 46.04.
Asyia Shank in the 200 fly finished first at 2:10.32. Sobchuk got another win in the 500 free with a time of 4:33.94. Russo set a national cut in the 1-meter diving with 304.15 and held the school record briefly. Schut past him up with 306.35 on his final dive to also hit the national cut. Schut also hit the national cut in the 3-meter diving at 296.00. Russo did better at 305.60 in the same event for the national cut of his own.
"It was a great weekend of swimming and diving against some great competition. We competed well in the pool and on the boards. We are looking forward to the GLIAC Championships in a couple of weeks," said head coach
