Panthers fall 5-2 against Lewis

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss against Lewis University on Thursday at the Grand Rapids Racquet Club. It was the third straight setback for the team who currently sit at 7-4 overall. Lewis improved to 4-3 overall and came out on top in the clutch moments of the match. The match hinged upon some tiebreak sets and the Flyers made enough plays to pull out the victory.

Lewis took a doubles point and Davenport was leading at two doubles before the match went unfinished with a 5-3 lead for Carlos Henriquez and Simone Pacciolla. Lewis won 6-2 at one doubles and 6-3 at three doubles so the second doubles matchup did not need to be finished.

The singles play was where the action was as Jan Stolin at the one spot picked up his 10th win of the season in three sets over Indrek Soome (3-6, 7-5, 6-1). Each of the matchups at two through four singles saw a tiebreak set needed and Lewis captured all of them en route to straight set wins. Subash Paramasivam fell 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) against Matias Parzajuk. Henriquez at three singles lost 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) against Oliwer Wierzbicki. Marius Pion at four singles dropped a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 match against Tatenda Mutetwa.
