ORLANDO, Fla. - Day four of the spring trip for the Davenport men's tennis team provided a signature win moment as they beat NCAA Division I St. Bonaventure 4-3 on Tuesday morning at the USTA National Campus. The match was the first one against a NCAA Division I opponent since Feb. 2, 2019 in a 4-2 loss against Eastern Illinois. The win was the first one against a NCAA Division I team since joining the ranks of NCAA Division II.
Davenport improved to 9-6 overall while the Bonnies slipped to 2-7 overall. The Panthers took the doubles point with wins at the one and three flights.
Subash Paramasivam and
Jan Stolin at one doubles beat Connor Turner and Jean Marrero 6-1 and improved to 12-3 together this season.
Jose Brenes and
Marius Pion at three doubles won 6-3 against Norka Sanchez and Arjun Pindiprolu and picked up their third win together this season.
Stolin had a straight sets win (6-3, 6-2) at one singles against Turner and got his 11th win of the season and seventh win in dual matches.
Simone Pacciolla was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at six singles over Pindiprolu and moved to 11-4 in singles play this season. The clinching point for the Panthers was at the four singles with Pion surviving a three-set match (1-6, 6-2, 6-2) against Marrero for his fifth singles win of the season.
