Panthers drop regular-season finale to #25 Wayne State

Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The regular season wrapped up on Saturday with an indoor match against No. 25 Wayne State at the MVP SportsPlex. The Warriors secured the two-seed in the upcoming GLIAC Tournament and the Panthers will be the sixth-seed after the 6-1 win by WSU. The Warriors are now 13-9, 5-1 while Davenport is 11-13, 1-5.
 
The Warriors got off to a hot start by winning all three doubles tilts. The No. 1 and No. 3 spots were both 6-1 results. Dom Spicer and Luke Laws got a fight from Jose Brenes and Carlos Henriquez but did pull out the win at 7-5.
 
Jan Stolin had one heckuva battle at one singles against the third-ranked singles player in Division II in Daniel Grey. Grey took the first set 7-5 but Stolin forced a third set with a 6-4 win in set two. The final set went to a tiebreaker before Grey squeezed out a 9-7 tiebreaker. Henriquez got the team point for Davenport at three singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Spicer. The other four singles matches were straight set wins for the Warriors.
 
DU will now prepare for the GLIAC Tournament which starts on Friday, April 26 in Midland. The Panthers will face third-seed Grand Valley State at a time to be determined.
