Week Preview: Panthers finish regular season with five games against GVSU

| By:
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport baseball team will be jockeying for position in the upcoming GLIAC Tournament this week with five regular-season games remaining against Grand Valley State. The two teams have met once already this season one week ago with a 6-5 walk-off win by the Panthers. It was an eventful eighth and ninth innings when eight of the game's 11 runs were scored. In the ninth, the Lakers scored three times without a hit to tie the game at 5-5. That set the stage for the walk-off victory as Connor Hnilo singled with one out and stole second while moving to third on a throwing error. With two outs, Anthony Aloisio ripped a single up the middle to plate Hnilo for the 6-5 triumph. The teams will play in Caledonia tonight at 6 PM and then conclude the season series with four games in Allendale.

LAST WEEKEND'S ACTION
The Panthers split four games at The Farm against Wayne State and currently sit at 17-28 overall and 12-13 in the GLIAC. Davenport maintain fourth place in the conference standings and are looking up at GVSU who are 14-11 and 22-22 overall. DU made it back-to-back, walk-off wins on Friday with a 5-4 decision over Wayne State. Trailing 4-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, Logan Todd started the rally with a single through the left side on a 2-0 pitch. Michael Tchavdarov followed with a RBI triple into the right field corner to tie the game on a 0-2 pitch. Hnilo delivered the game-winning hit into left field as Tchavdarov scored the winning run. Connor Foley got the win in relief (1-0) with three strong innings allowing just one hit and no runs with five strikeouts.

The Panthers fell 5-2 in game one on Saturday. After trailing 4-0, Josh Robinson and Aloisio had back-to-back RBI doubles to right center in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 4-2. The Warriors scored one insurance run in the seventh inning on a throwing error and Karter Fitzpatrick went all seven innings for WSU to get the win.
