ALLENDALE, Mich. - After taking the first two games of the season series against Grand Valley State, the Lakers came back with a vengeance in their home field on Thursday with a 17-5 decision over the Panthers. Davenport was held scoreless until the sixth inning when the Lakers already had built a 6-0 lead after two runs in the first and four more in the second.
Davenport (18-29, 13-14 GLIAC) got the board in the sixth courtesy of a
Coltrane Rubner RBI single after
Xander Reisbig led off the inning with a triple to right center. The Panthers had a chance to cut into the deficit further but left the bases loaded. The Lakers scored three more times in the bottom of the sixth to pull away up 9-1.
Anthony Aloisio hit his eighth home run of the season with one out in the seventh. The Lakers added five more runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 14-2 lead. Davenport's most productive inning was the ninth when they scored three runs on one hit. Reisbig had a RBI single with one out and then
Chase Kemp got a RBI after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs.
Jared Evans the next batter walked on four straight pitches to score the fifth and final run for the Panthers.
Jonas Gulbrandsen, Ryan Dykstra, and Logan Anderson all had home runs for GVSU. Dykstra finished 5-for-6 at the plate with six RBI and three runs scored. Jake Rydquist went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. Kyle Nott went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.
Carson Fischer (3-7) had his shortest start of the season lasting two innings. He gave up eight hits and six earned runs on 52 pitches.
Connor Foley was the most effective hurler on the day going three innings and not allowing a run on two hits.
Reisbig had the best day at the dish for the Panthers going 4-for-5 to set a season high for hits. He also scored two of the team's five runs.
Josh Robinson and
Logan Todd each went 2-for-4 and Robinson scored a run. The two teams now have a day off before getting back on the diamond on Saturday, May 4 for a 1:00 PM doubleheader at the GVSU Baseball Field.
