Seven Panthers named to the CSC Academic All-District team

Davenport University had seven student-athletes from the 2023-24 cross country and track & field teams named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District this week.

On the women's side, the recipients were Erin Dorn, Ella Baryo, Annabelle Schafer, and Julia Tuuri. On the men's side, the recipients were Noah Evers, Ethan Scholten, and James Horn.

Dorn placed seventh in the region in the 800 meters and set a school record with a time of 2:09.58 at the GLIAC Outdoor Championships. Dorn was also 28th in the region in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:39.24 to establish a school record set at the DU Panther Classic in April. Baryo set the school record in the 5,000 meters (17:37.63) at the GVSU Early Meet in April and was 36th in the region. She also placed 12th in the 3,000 steeplechase at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet with a time of 11:04.10. Schafer was 24th in the 100 hurdles (15.00), 23rd in the high jump (5' 2.25"), 10th in the long jump (18' 5.25"), 22nd in the javelin (118' 9"), and seventh in the heptathlon (4,593 points). Tuuri set new school records this season in the 100 and 200 meters. She ran 11.93 at the St. Francis Fighting Chance Invite in May and was 16th in the region in the 100 meters. She also ran 24.78 which was 27th in the region at the GLIAC Outdoor Championships.

Evers participated in the NCAA Outdoor Championships and earned All-American honors by finishing second in the shot put with a personal best of 63' 3.5". He was also 15th nationally in the discus breaking the school record in May at the GVSU Last Chance Meet (183' 4"). Scholten raced in the 100 meters and had the fourth-best regional mark this spring at 10.34 to break the school record at the GLIAC Outdoor Championships. Horn placed 17th in the region in the shot put (51' 11.75") and 31st in the hammer throw (164' 8"). 

The 2024 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Cross Country/Track & Field teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track, in the field, and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes women's cross country/track & field honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
