Late goal lifts Michigan Tech over DU

Box Score HOUGHTON, Mich. - Holding a one-goal lead with under 30 minutes to play, Davenport University women's soccer couldn't fend off a comeback by the Michigan Tech Huskie as the opponent took a 2-1 decision at home.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half as Tech led the shot total with seven (one on goal) with DU unable to convert on their two shots that were both saved by Bri Barrows - sending the match into halftime with no scores.

15 minutes into the second half, a throw-in attempt for DU allowed Haley Diekevers to set up Julia Tamasy roughly 20 yards from the goal who pinned a strike into the left side of the box and put the Panthers up 1-0. However, seven minutes later, a foul by DU gave the Huskies a free-kick attempt at midfield and a failed attempt at clearing a cross gave Julia Pietila a successful header attempt to even the score at 1-1.

With under 10 minutes to play, an attack by Michigan Tech gave Pietila another scoring opportunity as a shot from a tough angle couldn't be stopped by DU, securing the win for the Huskies.

The Panthers continue their road stretch in Marquette as they travel to Northern Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 22 for a 1 p.m. kickoff at NMU Soccer Field.
