WSOC Preview Week 4

Preview: DU hosts Rangers, visit the Bulldogs to resume conference play

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport University women's soccer looks to flip the switch in week four after recently dropping their first GLIAC matches and falling to 2-3-1 this season.

Julia Tamasy recorded her first score as a Panther in the 2-1 loss at Michigan Tech on Sept. 20 for the DU's only goal of the week. The team lost 3-0 at Northern Michigan two days later as Elizabeth Wolter's four saves in the effort brought her weekly total to seven overall.

Conference action resumes for DU this week with the Panthers splitting a home and road contest, the latter against a top-10 regional opponent.

Parkside Matchup
Selected to finish No. 5 in the GLIAC Preseason Poll, the Rangers' 2-0 start to 2024 took a rough turn as Parkside goes into week four on a three-match skid (2-3 overall).

Parkside dropped the conference opener to Ferris State on Sept. 22 in a 1-0 home loss to the Bulldogs. Through five contests, Emily Mikkelson and Ava Rizzitano have been the only goal-scorers for the Rangers. Nadiia Ivanchenko and Mikkelson lead the team with one assist each as Lola Minic has started and played all 450 minutes in goal for Parkside, making 24 saves on 57 shots faced and allowing just three goals scored.

With both teams amidst a three-match losing streak, DU hosts Parkside as the all-time series record stands at 3-2-4 for the Panthers.

Ferris State Matchup
The Bulldogs host the Panthers for their Senior Day celebration on Sept. 29 as DU looks to snap a cold 0-10-4 historical record against Ferris. 2023's season series finished 0-0-2, marking the first year in history where both regular-season meetings ended in a draw.

Ferris received its first United Soccer Coaches nod of 2024 with a No. 9 ranking in the NCAA Midwest Region Poll this week following back-to-back road victories at Roosevelt (5-2) and Parkside (1-0) in their recent outings.

2023 D2CCA All-Midwest Region Second Team honorees, Katherine Welch and Lindsay Cole highlight two of a handful of key returns for the Bulldogs this season. Haley Buckman, Autumn Burns, and Reese Carmody are in a three-way tie for the team's leading scorer this year at two each, as Welch's three assists tie her with teammate Brinley Bell for the team-high and tie the pair for second place in the GLIAC. Cole's defensive efforts led to her all-region nod last season, with the senior defender translating her play to the offensive attack with one assist and one shot-on-goal logged.

Morgan Fillion and Lauren Kubacki have been the rotational duo for the goalkeeper position, Fillion tallying the most starts with four through four appearances. The freshman has recorded splits of 14 saves (.737 save percentage) and five goals allowed (1.53 goals-allowed average) as Kubacki has made two starts through four matches played - recording nine saves (.818 save rate) and two goals allowed (0.73 average).
