KENTWOOD, Mich. — Davenport University's women's swimming and diving team placed second in the DU October Invitational with standout performances from
Zofia Janaszek-Seydlitz and
Claire DeKievit, who both excelled in their events, contributing significantly to the team's score of 641 points. This was the team's second meet of the season, showcasing their growing momentum and skill.
Asyia Shank delivered a commendable swim in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking a time of 57.90 seconds and earning 20 points. In the women's 100-yard breaststroke, Janaszek-Seydlitz and DeKievit stood out by securing first and second place, respectively, with times of 1:04.65 and 1:04.66. Their efforts significantly contributed to Davenport's overall point tally in the competition. The 200-yard medley relay of
Alicja Pinkowicz, DeKievit, Shank, and Janaszek-Seydlitz won the event in a time of 1:46.43. Pinkowicz placed second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.22 and earned 17 points. The 200-yard free relay team finished second with a time of 1:38.15 (Janaszek-Seydlitz, Shank, Pinkowicz,
Shea Opdahl). Pinkowicz won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.78.
In the men's division, the Panthers scored 445.5 points and finished fourth out of five teams. Wayne State won the invitational with 1,048 points.
Micah Sholl and
Grant Sandstedt excelled in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing first and second, respectively. Sholl's time of 2:06.41 and Sandstedt's close finish at 2:06.50 helped Davenport secure crucial points. Additionally,
Nolan Breckon, Sholl, Sandstedt, and
Maciej Konarski played a pivotal role in the men's 400-yard medley relay team, which achieved a remarkable time of 3:27.78, earning third place. Sholl was able to finish fourth in the 50-yard free with a time of 21.18. He additionally placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55.46 and first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.41) to earn 20 points. Konarski was second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:06.50. He also was sixth in the 400-yard IM (4:10.49). The 200-yard free relay was third place with a time of 1:24.91 and consisted of Sholl, Sandstedt, Breckon, and
Rowen Vaara.
