Panthers Fall 3-0 to Parkside

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Davenport University women's volleyball team fell to Parkside in straight sets on Saturday (Oct. 4) at De Simone Arena, with the Rangers taking the match 25-20, 25-21, 25-18.

Madison Berry led the Panthers (7-6, 4-2 GLIAC) with 22 assists, facilitating the offense in all three sets. Hayley Carr led the way defensively with a team-high 13 digs, as well as a pair of assists. Amelia Werner accumulated four block assists without errors. Kaitlin Jordan added to the team's efforts with two service aces, contributing to her total of 6.5 points.

Davenport initiated set one with a strong start, as Abby Alan secured the first point through a kill assisted by Berry, giving DU the first lead. Davenport maintained momentum with a series of successful plays, including a service ace from Jordan and a kill from Karley Pretzer, extending their lead to 9-5. However, the Rangers (10-3, 3-3 GLIAC) responded with a series of points to narrow the gap. Despite Davenport's efforts to stay ahead with kills from Sydney Swan and Werner, the Rangers' consistent play allowed them to take control in the latter stages of the set. The set concluded with the Rangers securing a 25-20 victory, despite late efforts from Davenport to close the deficit with a service ace by Carr and a kill by Morgan Tydings.

In the second set, the momentum shifted back and forth. Davenport initially fell behind but responded with a series of well-executed plays, including kills by Alan and Swan to close the gap to 5-6. A mid-set rally saw Davenport tie the score at 18-18, highlighted by consecutive kills from Tydings and a key block by Pretzer and Werner.Despite this effort, the Rangers regained control and took a 25-21 win to extend the lead to 2-0.

The final commenced with DU taking a brief lead at 4-2 after an attack error by Sam Fisch and a service error by Ava Irvin. However, the Rangers responded with a series of kills, regaining the lead at 5-4. Davenport maintained pressure with key plays, including a block by Berry and Jordan that leveled the score at 6-6. A kill by Swan tied it again at 7-7, but the Rangers' Avary Polavin and Fisch made critical kills to shift the lead back to 11-8 in their favor. Despite a late push from Davenport, featuring kills from Jordan and Werner, the Rangers extended their advantage with a series of kills from Irvin.The set concluded with a 25-18 finish and UWP securing the sweep.
