GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team scored their most goals in a game in over four years on Friday night with a 9-4 victory over ACHA Division 2 Pittsburgh at Patterson Ice Center. The Panthers ended the game with 34 shots on goal, including 19 shots in the second period.
Davenport found the back of the net three times in the first period on goals by
Abby Hildebrand and a pair from
Kacie Stolarek. DU made it a five-goal stretch into the second period as
Ainsley Skinner and
Sydriha Retzlaff made it a 6-1 lead.
Stolarek would end up scoring five goals to set a new single-game record for the program. She scored once in the second period (11:18) and twice more in the third period at 16:22 and short-handed at 18:16. Hildebrand added another goal at 14:05 of the second period. DU did yield a pair of power play goals to Pitt by Madison Sloan and Audrey Monro-Neely.
Pitt earned the split on Saturday in a wild 8-6 win. Pitt made the most of their shots on goal, scoring eight goals on just 16 shots. Davenport scored six times on 34 shots on net.
Pitt made the most of their power play opportunities going 5-of-9 compared to 1-of-7 for Davenport. Davenport jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but then allowed four straight goals in the second period. DU regained the lead 5-4 as the second period ended. Pitt owned the final period with four goals.
Ella Venters stopped 28 shots for Pitt in net, while Abby Courtney stopped eight shots for Davenport. The Panthers dressed just eight skaters and Courtney filled in as the emergency goaltender. Stolarek recorded four assists to lead the team. Retzlaff and
Gabby Basha each scored twice. Hildebrand and
Morgan Osborn each scored a goal for Davenport.
