Panthers Competes in Deep Field at Midwest Classic

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Davenport University's men's wrestling team finished 41st overall with 5.0 team points while competing against a nationally deep field Saturday in Indianapolis.

The Panthers earned points through consolation action and bonus victories while facing multiple ranked and regionally strong programs throughout the day.

At 125 pounds, Adam Concepcion provided Davenport's biggest scoring effort. After receiving a bye, Concepcion rebounded in the consolation bracket with a 14–1 major decision over Seton Hill's Jacob Sombronski to secure valuable team points before being eliminated in the next round.

Shawn McGuire (133) also contributed in wrestlebacks, responding to an opening-round loss with a fall at 4:34 over Norikus Cown of Allen to keep his tournament run alive and add bonus points for the Panthers.

Buddy Leonard (149) and Brody Orcutt (157) each advanced into the championship bracket after receiving first-round byes before continuing in consolation action against experienced Division II opponents. Orcutt closed his day with a competitive decision in wrestlebacks.

At heavyweight, Andrew Dupree gained additional postseason-style experience after advancing into the consolation rounds following his opening match.

Wisconsin–Parkside claimed the team title with 150 points, while Pitt–Johnson and Central Oklahoma followed in second and third place, respectively.

Davenport competed alongside 46 teams at the event.

The Panthers will continue their schedule after the new year when they face Tiffin on Jan. 10. The Dragons are coming off a tie for fourth place at the Midwest Classic, finishing with 109.5 team points.
