GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Davenport came up just short in a tightly contested dual on Friday evening, falling 18–17 to Thomas More inside the DU Student Center. The Panthers won five bouts, including a bonus-point victory at 184 pounds, but late momentum from the Saints swung the outcome.
DU opened the dual with strong composure at the lighter weights as Adam Concepcion and Shawn McGuire delivered back-to-back decisions to give Davenport an early lead. After Thomas More responded with wins at 141 and 149, Brody Orcutt steadied the Panthers with a controlled decision at 157, tying the dual and shifting momentum back in Davenport's favor.
The Panthers' biggest spark came at 184, where Ethan Ramsey rolled to an 18-3 technical fall—Davenport's lone bonus-point win of the evening—pushing DU back ahead. Darrin Alward also posted a shutout victory at 174, pacing the middle-weight surge.
Despite holding an advantage in individual wins (5–4), Davenport was unable to close the door in the upper weights. Thomas More took the final two bouts, including a critical decision at heavyweight, allowing the Saints to edge out the team result.
Davenport returns to action this weekend, making the trip to Indianapolis for the Midwest Classic, set for Dec. 13–14.
