BAY CITY, Mich. - The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has revealed its postseason award winners in men's tennis for the 2024-25 season, and Davenport University was well represented with four student-athletes earning recognition from conference head coaches.
Daniel Calver (Johannesburg, South Africa) was named GLIAC Freshman of the Year and also earned a spot on the All-GLIAC First Team for singles — an impressive debut season for the newcomer. Junior
Simone Pacciolla (Mesagne, Italy) was bestowed First Team All-GLIAC in singles and doubles. Freshman
Reuben Bakker (Randburg, South Africa) joined with Pacciolla in doubles to earn First Team All-GLIAC as a tandem. Rounding out the honorees, senior
Carlos Henriquez (Valencia, Venezuela) was recognized with Honorable Mention All-GLIAC, capping off a strong season and collegiate career.
Calver becomes the second Panther to earn GLIAC Freshman of the Year, with the first belonging to Quintin van Wijk in 2022. Calver helped DU to an overall record of 15-8 this season. He compiled a record of 15-9 overall in singles, including a 5-2 mark in GLIAC matches. He was 2-0 during dual matches at one singles and 12-6 at two singles. He was also able to pick up 13 doubles wins overall this season. He finished the season winning six of his last seven singles matches.
Pacciolla was asked to play in the one spot for singles for the majority of the season, once
Jan Stolin went down with a season-ending injury. He fared admirably as he posted a 3-3 record in GLIAC singles matches and was 9-10 overall in singles play this season. Pacciolla and Bakker compiled a record of 12-5 in doubles together overall, and they were an impressive 5-1 in GLIAC matches as a duo.
Henriquez had the second-most singles wins on the team, going 15-12 overall and 4-3 in conference singles matches. Henriquez was also able to pick up 13 doubles wins overall, including three during GLIAC action. He leaves Davenport with 30 career singles wins and 38 career doubles wins.
