Fierce Fight to the Finish: DU Battles to Tie for 11th in NCAA East Regional

| By:
ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Davenport women's golf team participated in their second straight NCAA East Regional over the past three days. The team was able to advance to the NCAA National Championship a year ago, but could not find that magic again as they finished in a tie for 11th place out of 18 teams. The team tackled The Meadows Golf Course on the campus of Grand Valley State and recorded a team score of 953 for the 54-hole format. DU shot 320 on the first day, 315 on the second day, and finished with a 318.

Venetia Chap had the team's best finish with a 29th place effort in her first regional appearance. She opened with an 85 and began to solve the course with a 76 on Tuesday and a 75 on Wednesday. Her scorecard on Wednesday included a pair of birdies on the par-4, 8th hole and par-4, 11th hole. Hannah Robinson was in a six-way tie for 35th place after a total of 237. She shot 79, 78, and 80 in a consistent round-by-round performance. Robinson was able to record two birdies in each round.

Lauren Gervais placed in a four-way tie for 48th place. Gervais shot an even-par 72 and was in fifth place after the first round. Unfortunately, that was not sustainable as she shot 85 and 83 in the final two rounds. ThaiLee Gerding placed in a two-way tie for 74th place with a score of 247 (84-83-80). Melissa Walker was in a two-way tie for 85th place by shooting 258 (85-78-95).
