Kwan Helps Lead DU Golf to Third Place Finish in Season Opener

PIERSON, Mich. - The Davenport University men's golf team completed its first event of the 2025-26 season this week (Sept. 8-9), placing third at the West Texas A&M Mike DeVries Invitational. As a team, the Panthers shot 904 (+28), with their best score coming in the second round, shooting four over par.

Leading the charge for DU was Cayden Kwan, tallying a three-round score of 219 (E) and tying for third place overall. It marked the third top-five finish of the juniors' collegiate career. Kwan finished strong, finishing the event with a low round of 71 (-2) in the third. Through three rounds, Kwan notched three birdies and added an eagle on the sixth hole of the opening round.

Chen-Shiuan Wu ended with a three-round score of 225 (+6), finishing 12th overall. In three rounds of action, Wu tallied eight birdies and an eagle on the 18th hole of the third round. He had a low round of 73 (E), which came in the second.

Coming in at 23rd overall was Justin Grimard, shooting 11 over par (230) through three rounds. He shot a 76 (+3) in both the first and second rounds of the event. Finished with five birdies through two days of play.

Casey Patterson ended with a score of 234 (+11), registering 12 birdies, including six in the second round. Rounding things out for DU was Pedro Russi, shooting 242 and notching five birdies.

Looking ahead, the Panthers will head to Big Rapids, Mich. to take part in the Midwest/Central Regional Preview at the Katke Golf Course, hosted by Ferris State.
