CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport tennis program turned in an outstanding weekend at the DU Invite, showcasing depth and consistency across both singles and doubles competition. The Panthers picked up numerous victories against opponents from Ferris State, Grand Valley State, and Northwood, using the event as an early-season statement.
On the men's side, Rudiger Dusselberg and Simone Pacciolla led the charge with convincing wins in singles. Dusselberg went 3-0 over the weekend with straight-set wins. Pacciolla won his opening match over Marc Ferrando of Northwood (6-3, 6-3) and later defeated Felipe Iser of Ferris State (4-6, 6-3, 10-7). Jaden Bender had success with two wins in singles. He beat Andreu Martin of Grand Valley (6-3, 0-6, 10-8) and Juan Perez of Northwood (6-1, 6-1).
The women's team also had an impressive showing. Lotte Federski breezed to a 3-0 record in singles. She had a challenging win over Ipek Sakroglu of Grand Valley State (3-6, 6-4, 10-4). Freshman Alice Maccani won her first two collegiate matches with victories over Vivian Burns of Ferris State (6-2, 6-3) and Nadia Baird of Ferris State (6-2, 6-2). Angelica Montano also picked up a pair of singles wins including a 6-2, 6-3 decision over teammate Valentina Moreno and a 8-4 score against Burns. Sienna Opray continued the trend with two wins in singles play. She disposed of Savannah Maruszewski of Northwood (6-3, 6-2) and Yara Madi of Ferris State (6-3, 6-4).Â
Doubles play was another area of strength for the Panthers. Opray and Skye Vandeleur teamed up for multiple wins, including a 9-8 decision over a pair from GVSU and a 6-1 victory over a pair from FSU. Dusselberg and Bender teamed up in doubles for a 7-5 win against Northwood and a 6-4 win against Ferris State.Â
The Panthers' balanced results across the lineup reflect both veteran leadership and emerging depth, giving the program momentum heading into the heart of the fall season.
