Harris and Underwood earn GLIAC Player of the Week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 3 of the 2025 football season. Davenport junior running back Cephus Harris was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, Ferris State senior defensive back Justin Payoute earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors and Davenport redshirt sophomore Kevin Underwood garnered GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week recognition.

Harris rushed for three touchdowns for the second consecutive week in Davenport's 35-16 win at Northern Michigan in the GLIAC opener for both schools. Harris needed just 11 carries to set the school's single-game rushing record with 171 yards. In addition, he broke off an 80-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for DU's final touchdown. That was the longest run in school history and vaulted him to eight rushing touchdowns this season. That mark, in just three games, ties the single-season rushing touchdown record at Davenport. Harris is averaging 8.4 yards per carry this season and 131 yards per game.

Underwood turned the tide in Davenport's 35-16 win at Northern Michigan to open up GLIAC play. With the Panthers leading 21-16 on the first play of the fourth quarter, Underwood blocked a punt and then picked it up and went 24 yards for a pivotal touchdown in DU's sixth straight win over the Wildcats. He is the first Panther to return a blocked punt for a score in two years.
