DU Stumbles in Second Half of 80-66 Loss to Wayne State

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Davenport men's basketball team fell to Wayne State 80-66 on Saturday at the DU Student Center in GLIAC action. Davenport held a 40-32 lead at halftime, but the Warriors surged in the second half, outscoring Davenport 48-26 to secure the victory. The Warriors capitalized on free throws, converting 25-of-30 attempts, while Davenport managed 11-of-18 from the line. Davenport shot 8-of-32 in the second half, including 0-of-11 from behind the arc. 

First Half
- Davenport established an early lead with a 7–0 run, highlighted by Curtis Jackson's three-pointer at 17:15.
- Wayne State responded with a 7–2 stretch, including a three-pointer from Jordan Briggs at 16:00, to briefly take the lead.
- Ken Walker contributed significantly for Davenport, scoring consecutive three-pointers, with the second one extending the lead to 32–19 at 6:32.
- Davenport maintained control and led 40–32 at halftime.

Second Half
- The Warriors capitalized on three consecutive 3-pointers, including one by Adam Ayrault at 11:06, to surge ahead.
- Davenport's Imran Deen scored a layup and a jumper, keeping the home team briefly competitive in the middle of the half.
- With 10:31 remaining, Jordan Briggs hit a 3-pointer, sparking a decisive run that extended the Warriors' lead.
- The Warriors concluded the game with an 80–66 victory, outscoring Davenport 48–26 in the half.

Curtis Jackson posted 12 points and recorded eight assists, while also contributing two steals. Alden Ritt added 14 points and registered three steals, alongside two blocks. Walker led the team with 15 points, converting three shots from beyond the arc. Aidan Moon collected eight rebounds and grabbed three steals, complementing his seven points.

Looking ahead, Davenport (9-5, 3-3 GLIAC) will travel to face Grand Valley State (11-3, 4-2 GLIAC) on Thursday, Jan. 15. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Allendale, Mich at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. DU will be looking to snap a seven-game skid against the Lakers.
