ALLENDALE, Mich. — Davenport University men's basketball (9-6, 3-4 GLIAC) had an off night and fell to Grand Valley State (12-3, 5-2 GLIAC) 90-50 on Thursday night at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. Davenport's defense recorded 11 steals, but the Lakers had a hot game shooting the ball, including 14-of-27 from behind the arc.
Davenport opened the first half with
Curtis Jackson scoring early with two consecutive layups to give them a brief lead at 17:50, 4–0. Despite Jackson's efforts, including a 3-pointer that pushed Davenport to 7–3 at 16:39, the Lakers quickly countered with a 12-0 run that was capped off at 12:58 on a triple by Charles Turner. Davenport trailed 17-12 after a
Marshaun Flakes three-pointer at 11:46, but could not score again until the 6:13 mark and found themselves down 30-12. The Lakers would close out the half with a 45-20 halftime lead.
Davenport began the second half striving to close the gap, with
Aidan Moon and
Ken Walker each contributing critical field goals in the first four minutes. Despite their efforts, the Lakers maintained control through consistent scoring, extending their lead to 69-30 at the second media timeout of the half. Davenport's attempts to rally included a series of successful 3-pointers by Walker, narrowing the deficit momentarily. However, the Lakers' were never threatened and claimed the 90-50 victory.

The next challenge for Davenport is a matchup against Ferris State on Saturday, Jan. 17. The game will tip off at 3 p.m. at Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids.
