GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Davenport fell to No. 12 Northern Michigan, 95-62, Saturday afternoon at the DU Student Center. The Wildcats connected on a season-high 16 three-pointers and used strong starts in each half to pull away, highlighted by Jacy Weisbrod becoming NMU's all-time leader in three-pointers.
Northern Michigan opened the game on a 6-0 run and knocked down six three-pointers in the first quarter to build a 29-10 advantage. Davenport worked to slow the momentum, getting early contributions from Nevaeh Williams and Maddie Geers, but trailed by double digits after one.
The Panthers found a rhythm in the second quarter, forcing turnovers and capitalizing in transition. Geers sparked the run with a fast-break three-pointer off an assist from Ellie Toney, as Davenport shot efficiently in the period and outscored the Wildcats 27-22, cutting the deficit to 51-37 at halftime.
Northern Michigan regained control coming out of the break, opening the third quarter on a 14-0 run. Davenport struggled to find consistency offensively as the Wildcats extended their lead behind continued perimeter shooting, taking a 76-47 advantage into the final quarter.
DU continued to battle in the fourth, generating scoring opportunities inside with Geers, while Toney and Taaria Pehi-Kupa helped create offense through ball movement. Northern Michigan answered with timely three-pointers to maintain separation and close out the 95-62 victory.
The Wildcats shot over 55 percent from three-point range and 56.5 percent from the field, improving to 18-4 overall and 9-3 in GLIAC play. Davenport moves to 6-14 overall and 4-8 in conference action
