DETROIT, Mich. — The Davenport Panthers women's basketball squad dropped a 67–46 decision to Wayne State at the WSU Fieldhouse on Thursday night, as the Warriors held a 34–18 advantage in points in the paint.

DU struck first, opening the game with a layup from Maya Mitchell off an assist by Ellie Toney. Davenport stayed competitive early, leaning on trips to the free-throw line from Nevaeh Williams and Kayla Covington, who both converted their opportunities. A jumper by Toney at the 5:55 mark briefly gave the Panthers the lead, but the Warriors answered before closing the first quarter ahead 13–12.

Davenport found early success in the second quarter behind back-to-back three-pointers from Toney, regaining an 18–15 advantage. WSU responded with a quick run, highlighted by a fast-break layup from McKenna Ferguson, shifting momentum back to the home side. The Panthers struggled to find a rhythm offensively, shooting 2-for-15 in the quarter, allowing Wayne State to build separation and take a 26–18 lead into halftime.

The Warriors continued to apply pressure in the third quarter, turning Davenport turnovers into points. Despite baskets from Anna Axtell and Williams, the Panthers were unable to string together stops, as Wayne State outscored DU 24–10 in the frame to extend the lead to 50–28.

The Panthers opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer from Reese Polega, assisted by Williams, and showed resilience down the stretch. Polega added four straight free throws as the Panthers outscored Wayne State 18–17 in the final quarter. However, the deficit proved too much to overcome, and the game ended with the Warriors securing the 67–46 win.
