ANN ARBOR, Mich. - DU Women's Ultimate competed in their first tournament of the year on October 3-4. The University of Michigan hosted DU, MSU, and Ohio University for an unsanctioned round-robin to kick off the school year.
Davenport went 5-0 for the weekend, with the two closest games against one half of the University of Michigan team (8-7 in pool play and 11-8 in finals). This was a huge growth moment for the program. This year, they brought in six rookies who only started learning to play ultimate on September 14th. The first few weeks of practice have been a crash course in throwing, catching, and strategy. Over the weekend, the rookies were able to get a lot of playing time and level up all of their skills. Jackie Possehn, K'lyn Potts, and Khloe Potts all had moments of greatness as they matched up against athletes on the other teams. As the only rookie with prior experience, Molly Selleck was a huge asset with her pinpoint throws and lockdown person defense.
Overall, the team is in a great position for early fall and ready to work hard for the rest of the year. The next competition includes a home game against GVSU on October 19th and an away tournament at OSU on October 24-25.
