Panthers Take Control Late After Playing from Behind

HAMMOND, Ind. — Davenport picked up its fifth conference win of the season with a 55-46 victory over Purdue Northwest on Saturday afternoon, using a decisive 17-3 run in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Davenport opened the game with a strong interior presence, scoring 10 of its first 11 points in the paint. Anna Axtell and Maddie Geers provided early jumpers, while Nevaeh Williams added a layup to keep DU within striking distance. Purdue Northwest used a late first-quarter push to take a 15–11 lead after one.

The Panthers made a move midway through the second quarter when Taaria Pehi-Kupa knocked down a three to cut the deficit to two. The Pride responded with a timely triple of their own, but DU continued to apply pressure. Williams and Ellie Toney each connected from beyond the arc in the closing minutes as Davenport trimmed the margin to 30–26 at the break, with both teams scoring 15 points in the quarter.

DU carried that momentum into the third, opening the half with a Reese Polega three to pull within one. Geers followed with a layup and a free throw to briefly give the Panthers the lead. Davenport's defense held firm, highlighted by blocks from Axtell and Geers, but PNW regained control late in the period. A free throw from Maya Mitchell brought DU within three before the Panthers entered the fourth trailing 43–38.

Davenport took control in the final quarter, closing the game on a decisive 17–3 run. Toney opened the scoring with a layup before Williams gave the Panthers the lead with a jumper midway through the period. Axtell added two key free throws to extend the advantage, and DU's defense limited the Pride to just three points in the quarter. Williams capped the run with a three-pointer late as the Panthers pulled away for a 55–46 conference victory.
