Panthers face top-level teams in the Sunshine State

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Davenport men's tennis faced a pair of tough opponents during its Florida trip, falling 7-0 to No. 4 NAIA Southeastern (Fla.) on Tuesday before dropping a competitive 5-2 decision to top-ranked Barry on Wednesday at Sanlando Park.

Against Southeastern, the Panthers were unable to recover after dropping two of the three doubles matches to start the day. The pairing of Jan Stolin and Reuben Bakker delivered Davenport's lone doubles victory with a 7-6 (7-5) win at the No. 2 position. Southeastern carried the momentum into singles play, sweeping all six matches to secure the 7-0 result. The closest match was No. 1 singles where Stolin went three sets with Javier Gallego (6-4, 6-7, 10-8).

Davenport rebounded with a stronger showing the following day against No. 1 Barry. The Buccaneers claimed the doubles point after winning two of three flights. Jaden Bender and Daniel Calver were victorious at No. 3 with a 6-4 victory over Simone Cavalleri and Simone Rivoira. The Panthers picked up two wins in singles action as Adrian Constantin earned a hard-fought victory at No. 2 singles, winning in a match tiebreaker 7-5, 5-7, 10-4 over Cavalleri. Calver added another point with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles versus Cooper Dillon. Despite the effort, Barry captured the remaining singles matches to take the 5-2 team victory.

The Panthers (5-8) will wrap up their spring trip with two matches on Thursday, Mar. 5. They will be in Kissimmee to take on Judson University (NAIA) at 8:30 am and then head back to Orlando for a 3:00 pm match against Eckerd.
