Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Panthers entered Wednesday afternoon's contest fresh off its highest ranking in school history of #20 but the Hornets from K-College held on for a tough 1-0 victory. The loss is the first of the season for Davenport as they fall to 3-1-0 on the season.
Davenport, which climbed to #20 in the latest NAIA poll, could not get a shot to go by the Hornet keeper as Kalamazoo escaped with the 1-0 victory. The first half was defined by defense as both teams really stepped it up on their own end of the field. Jeremy Novakoski (Grand Rapids, MI) was solid in goal until a Hornet forward got one by him in the 59th minute to break the scoreless game.
Davenport had their chances down the stretch but could not find the back of the net with any of their shots. DU outshot K-College 16-11 (7-6 on goal) but the Hornet keeper held tough.
Davenport falls to 3-1-0 on the season as they will now begin WHAC play this Saturday when they play host to the Cardinals of Concordia. Game time is set for 3:00 or soon after the conclusion of the women's game which begins at 12:00 PM. The game will be held at the South Christian Athletic Park in Caledonia, MI.
