ADRIAN, Mich. - The effects of a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to #18 Madonna carried into Thursday's opening set loss to Siena Heights. Davenport recovered pretty quickly though to post three straight wins after that to improve to 17-14 on the year.
After dropping the final three sets to the Crusaders on Tuesday, the Panthers failed to show up for the first half of the opening set against the host Saints on Thursday as SHU jumped out to a 14-7 lead.
Slowly DU would chip away and got to within two at 23-21 on back-to-back kills from Amy VanEns (Lowell, Mich.) and Kelse Moon (Fremont, Mich.). Siena remained composed though and closed out DU 25-23.
Sets two-four were dominated by the Panthers and they proved that early in the second when they ran off 22 of the first 31 points in cruising to a 25-11 win. A close start to the third set was quickly turned in DU's favor as the Panthers won 19 of the final 28 points to take a 2-1 lead with the 25-15 win.
The Panthers completed the three set swing with a final 25-14 win in the fourth set as well.
Davenport's offense caught fire in the final three sets as they collected 37 kills on 100 attempts that was highlighted by 13 kill/1 error performance on 27 attempts in the second set.
Leading the way offensivley was freshman Kassie Graves (White Cloud, Mich.) who finished with 15 kills and Joyce Larioza (Fowlerville, Mich.) who posted 7 kills on just 14 attempts.
DU is now 17-14 on the year and 5-6 in league play. They will travel Concordia on Tuesday before heading to Indiana Tech on Thursday.
