FORT WAYNE, Ind. - To finish in the top four and earn a home playoff date in the WHAC Tournament, DU will need to win on Tuesday against Cornerstone after falling in straight sets to #16 Indiana Tech tonight in Fort Wayne. Davenport is now 18-15 on the year.
For the second straight time this season, the Warriors made quick work of the Panthers with a 25-8, 25-12, 25-20 win in Fort Wayne.
DU never got going in the opening set after seeing Tech get out to a fast lead and the Panthers finished with more hitting errors (6) than kills (5).
It was the same story in the second set as DU hit for a -.097 clip (6 kills/9 errors/31 attempts) as the Warriors went up 2-0.
DU did rally in the third set and the flow was back and forth with Davenport never trailing by more than 3 points. Unfortunately, the Panthers could not put together enough quality points in a row as IT's offense was too much finishing DU out 25-20.
The Warriors hit an amazing .456 on the night with 41 kills in three sets.
DU freshman Kassie Graves (White Cloud, Mich.) led the team with 12 kills and Courtney DePriest (Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished the night with 12 digs.
DU still has a small chance of hosting the first round of the WHAC Tournament but they will need to win on Tuesday at cross-town rival Cornerstone who defeated DU earlier this year 3-1.
Davenport is now 18-15 on the year and 6-7 in WHAC play. They will travel to Taylor (Ind.) on Friday and Saturday for the Trojan Invitational in Upland.
