CLERMONT, Fla. - The Davenport University Softball team took on Webber International in double header this afternoon in which the Panthers dropped both games. In the first game DU's bats were very sluggish as they lost 8-0. The bats came alive in the second game but couldn't provide one more run, as they lost 9-8 in 10 innings.
In game one of the double header DU just couldn't get into a rhythm. They saw themselves fall behind 4-0 after the first inning and just could never recover. While only producing two hits all game from Ali Dawson and Cora Miller, the Panthers stuck out 12 times.
Kassi Johnson took the loss on the mound while giving up 6 earned runs and 4 walks on the day.
In game two the Panther bats started to come alive as they jumped on top of Webber International 7-5 after the first three innings. Webber would tie the game up in the 5th inning at 7-7 which forced the game into extra innings. With the international tie breaker rule in affect both teams pushed through one run in the eighth inning. With missed chances, and runners left on base DU was unable to put another run across the plate in the ninth and tenth inning. Webber International would score the winning run off a hit to right field, which would give the Panthers the 9-8 loss in the tenth.
Haley Stehouwer, Cora Miller, and Katie Cornman all had 2 hits each, while Ali Dawson, Kristin Miedema, and Morgan Greenfield each added one. Dawson would be given the loss on the mound as she gave up only 3 earned runs and four walks during the game.
The two losses now put Davenport at 1-3 on the year, with a night game verses Grove City College at 5:30pm to finish up the day.
