GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport University officially opened up their home field today as they posted a dramatic 8-7 comeback win over Rochester College. DU now stands at 20-8 on the year with league play set to open this weekend against Madonna University.

After getting three quick outs in the top of the first, DU put their first two batters on board in the bottom half but a Matt Collins hard line drive to center field turned into an inning ending triple play. The next five innings were much of the same as each pitcher for DU (Jarrett Luyk, Wesley Trimpe and Tommy Greer) got out of the little trouble they found themselves in.

Rochester did get things started in the top half of the 6th inning as they brought across four runs to put the Panthers into a deep hole with only four at-bats remaining.

Up first in the bottom half of the seventh, Joe Freist got things started with a deep homerun to right center to put DU on the board. After a single by Ryan Lind, Jake Loomans then hit a homerun of his own right down the left field line that stayed just fair. Davenport scored the three innings to trail by only one heading into the final three innings.

The Warriors then came right back in the next inning as they got one run off of new DU pitcher Corey Anderson to take a 5-3 lead into the eighth, but DU tied the game up on a double by Derrick Gentile in the bottom half that scored Joe Freist and Brian Spykerman.

Neither team posed a threat in the last inning but Rochester came up big in the top of the tenth when they got a 1-out double that scored two runs to give them a 7-5 lead.

DU then got a lead-off hit by Ryan Lind in the bottom half of the inning who advanced to second on a wild pitch and then came around to score on a single by Tim McNair. After an error by the Warriors gave DU two runners on with two outs, James Folske hit a single up the middle to bring home both runs for the dramatic 8-7 victory.

DU improves to 20-8 on the year as they end their four-game skid. DU will open conference play this weekend when they play Madonna in Livonia on Saturday before hosting the Crusaders on Sunday in a double-header. Both days the play is scheduled to start at 1:00 PM.
