WHITING, Ind. - On a very cold and windy day Davenport suffered its first loss in six games after falling to Calumet College of St. Joseph today 7-6. DU is now 15-8 on the year and will open up conference play on Wednesday, April 1st when they travel down to Indiana Tech.
The Panthers got on the board early in the third inning when Haley Stehouwer hit an inside the park homerun to put DU up 1-0. Calumet would then answer back in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own to take the 2-1 lead.
In the fifth inning Davenport would regain the lead when Cora Miller would knock in Stehouwer from third, followed by Kristina Krum who knocked in Miller from second. With DU leading 3-2 in the sixth, they would add three more runs to go up 6-2. Stehouwer, Miller, and Ali Dawson would each be credited with RBI's.
With a 6-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning Calumet capitalized on Davenport mishaps and pushed five runs past home plate to win the game 7-6.
Karlee Despres would be handed her first loss of the year and now stands at 3-1 on the mound for DU.
The second game of the double header was cancelled due to weather.
Davenport has now completed their non-conference schedule and stands at 15-8 on the year. They will open up conference play with the Warriors of Indiana Tech on April 1st. Game time is set for 4:00pm in Fort Wayne, IN.
