Game 1 Box Score Game 2 Box Score
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The starting pitching got off to two slow starts today and the bats were nowhere to be found as Aquinas swept the double-header today 6-2 and 11-1. The two losses drop DU to 25-17 on the year and 5-7 in league play.
Brandon Romero got the start in game one and Saints bats came alive early after an early error by the Panthers defense as they went on top 2-0 after the first half inning. Davenport came back strong in the bottom half as Ryan Lind came to bat with the bases loaded and two outs and brought home two runs in a single to left field.
The Saints kept the pressure on in the second though as they tacked on three more runs, but Romero settled down from there allowing only one more run in his remaining four innings.
The Davenport bats however were just as cold as the temperatures managing only five hits after the first inning and zero runs ultimately losing 6-2.
Game two started out even worse for the host Panthers as Wes Trimpe was hit hard in his start giving up 10 runs (7 earned) in the first inning. Tommy Greer relieved Trimpe and after giving up just the one run in the second was very solid for the remainder of the game.
The bats again doomed Davenport as they finished with only five hits in the game as Joe Hill, James Folske, Matt Collins, Brian Spykerman and Jake Loomans all chipped in.
Aquinas would go on to allow only one run in the game (a 5th inning run to Joe Hill) as they cruised to the 11-1 win in five.
The two losses drop DU to 25-17 on the year and are now 5-7 in league play. The Panthers will take to the field tomorrow when they travel across town to take on Calvin College in a non-conference game.
