GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - For the second day in a row Davenport splits a doubleheader with Cornerstone University. In their last home game of the season DU would win 8-3 and then drop game two 10-4. DU is now 24-21 on the year and 9-13 in WHAC play.
In game one, Davenport jumped on the board early with a run in the first inning and then two in the third off Haley Stehouwer's 12th homerun of the season. Down 3-0, Cornerstone answered back with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth to tie the game up at 3-3.
That would be as close as they would get though after DU added three runs in the fifth off a 2-run single by Ali Dawson and then a RBI double by Katie Cornman. Two more runs in the sixth would solidify the 8-3 win. Dawson would also get her 6th win on the mound for the year.
Game two would prove different results for the Panthers. Cornerstone would jump on the board early taking a 6-0 lead into the third inning. Then they would add four more in the bottom innings of the game to win 10-4. Kristen Miedema would lead the Panther offense, going 3-3 with a home run and two of the Panthers four RBI's.
DU now stands at 24-21 on the year and 9-13 in WHAC. They will now travel to Ann Arbor and Adrian, MI this weekend to take on Concordia and Siena Heights. They will then finish up WHAC play on Monday with a doubleheader at Aquinas College.
