BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - The 2009 season came to a close today for the Davenport softball team as they fell in the elimination bracket of the WHAC Tournament 6-5 to Cornerstone University. DU ends their first ever season with a record of 31-23 overall.

Being sent to the elimination bracket via a loss to #15 Madonna set DU up against Grand Rapids rival Cornerstone University and it was the Golden Eagles who got the upper hand as they jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead after batting in the top of the fourth.

Davenport then started their comeback as they loaded the bases in the bottom half and eventually brought home three runs to cut the lead to just one. After seeing the lead go back to three at 6-3, the Panthers got a huge homerun off the bat of Kristina Krum to get within a single run heading into the final two innings.

After a scoreless sixth, DU again got a threat on base in their final at bat in the seventh, but a double-play got Cornerstone out of the jam and they held on for the 6-5 win.

Ali Dawson took the loss for Davenport falling to 7-5 on the year as the Panthers end their inaugural season at 31-23 overall.
