LYNDHURST, Ohio - Playing on the road against the #7 ranked team in the NAIA in a night game proved to be too much for the young Panthers as the host Falcons jumped out quick and cruised to a 6-0 win in their home opener. The loss drops DU to 1-1-0 on the year as they will travel to Olivet Nazarene this weekend.
After escaping Chicago last week with an impressive 3-2 double-overtime win against Trinity International, the Panthers (1-1-0) entered Tuesday night's showdown with the Falcons (1-0-0) riding momentum.
That sense of urgency went downhill quickly as Notre Dame scored just 1:57 into the game and added three more in the opening 45 minutes of the game to take a 4-0 lead into the locker room.
The offense for the Falcons continued to pour it on in the second half as DU goalkeeper James Gilpin (Newcastle, UK) faced 32 shots on the night with 18 of them being on net. The Panthers offense on the other hand was as cold as the Falcons were hot as they managed only four shots with one coming on net from Alex Boehm (Stevensville, Mich).
DU drops to 1-1-0 on the season and will now travel to Olivet Nazarene on August 28 for their third straight non-conference road game. The Panthers will finally host their home opener on September 5 when they welcome NCAA D3 Olivet College.
