Panthers Fall 5-3 to Loyola University; Rebound With 4-3 Victory Over the University of Arkansas

KNOXVILLE, Mich. – The D3 hockey team finished up their tournament in Tennessee with a 4-3 victory over the University of Arkansas after falling to Loyola University 5-3 the night before. Davenport is now 6-3 on the year and will kick off MCHC play next weekend.
Loyola University
Both teams opened up with hot offense in the first period with Loyola striking with the first two goals of the night. Down 2-0, the Panthers would battle back to tie the game with goals from Bryon Guerin (Jackson, Mich.) and Mike Soto (Muskegon, Mich.). Loyola would then add a late goal to take the lead back 3-2 and force DU to make a goalie change.
The Panther defense would allow another goal in the second period and one more in the third to give Loyola the 5-2 lead. Guerin would add his second goal of the night but that would be all the scoring for the Panthers to end the game with a 5-3 loss.
University of Arkansas
After losing two straight games Davenport would look to head home from the Tennessee tournament with one win under their belt despite playing without many starters due to injury.Norm Farr (Jenison, Mich.) would kick off the scoring on a power play goal from Sam Waldhart (Walker, Mich.) and Taylor Keyworth (Grand Rapids, Mich.). Arkansas would add two goals in the period as well to end the first up 2-1.
Entering the second period Davenport would tie the game up at 2-2 with a power play goal from rookie Zach Standifer (Monroe, Mich.). The lead would not last though, as Arkansas would add another goal at the end of the period to go into the locker room down 3-2.
Davenport would enter the third period fired up starting with an unassisted goal from Justin Welker (Speedway, Ind.) to tie the game up at 3-3. Goalie Tim Davis (Grand Rapids, Mich.) would shut down the Arkansas offense the rest of the game with many spectacular saves in net for DU.
With four minutes to go in the game Zack Feher (Livonia, Mich.) would give DU the go ahead goal from Welker. The 4-3 victory would be the sixth of the season for the Panthers who will be back in action on October 22nd at Northwood University for their first conference game of the year. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
