MIDLAND, Mich. – The Panthers kicked off conference action with a 4-0 victory over Northwood University last night. Davenport is now 7-3 on the year and 1-0 in the MCHC.
Davenport would jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the first period and never look back from there. Freshman
Mike Soto (Muskegon, Mich.) would account for the first goal of the night from
Bryon Guerin (Jackson, Mich.). Teammate
Justin Welker (Speedway, Ind.) would follow Sotos lead five minutes later with a power play goal of his own from
Jordan Permoda (Wayland, Mich.) and Soto.
The Panthers would continue to dominate in the second period with two more goals to push their lead to 4-0. The third goal would come from
Jordan Phillips (Swartz Creek, Mich.) from
Jordan Steger (Caledonia, Mich.) and twenty second later Soto would have his third point of the night with a power play goal from
Jake Williams (Jenison, Mich.) and Welker.
Goalie
Tim Davis (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and the Panther defense would shut down the Northwood offense holding them to three scoreless periods and their first shut-out of the year.
Davenport will continue the two game MCHC series this afternoon against Northwood in Midland. Game time is set for 1:00pm.
