GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In their first ever appearance in the NAIA National Tournament, Davenport fell victim to the #2 ranked team in the country as Notre Dame (Ohio) posted a 5-0 victory over Davenport. The loss ends the Panthers season at 15-7-0 overall.

The opening half got started with a bang for both teams as they each had good chances with Kevin O'Brien (Cork, Ireland) coming up with a big save and Jordan Richards (Northampton, England) sending a ball off the post. Some big fouls also highlighted the opening minutes with one of the Falcons players having to leave after a serious gash above his right eye.

The play would settle down until the 16th minute when the Falcons sent a corner kick in that DU tried to clear but a header that ricocheted off of another Panther went right back into the DU goal to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. The own goal would be the second of the season committed by Davenport.

With limited opportunities for the remainder of the first half, DU was unable to tie the score and it looked as if the 1-0 would hold up until halftime but Notre Dame struck again with only 20 seconds remaining and went into the locker room with that same lead.

Notre Dame out-shot Davenport 11-3 with DU only picking up the one shot on net while the Falcons had five on goal.

The Falcons came out firing again in the second half and notched another goal just 11 minutes in on a nice cross and header that beat O'Brien in net. The 3-0 lead matched the largest deficit of the year for DU.

Notre Dame added to their lead with another nice goal in the 66th minute to go up 4-0 and finished it with a fifth in the 80th minute which would be the final outcome.

The appearance in the NAIA National Tournament was the first ever for the Davenport Men's Soccer program as they conclude the 2010 season with a 15-7 overall mark. The 15 wins set a school record and the Panthers claimed their first ever WHAC regular season championship along with their second ever WHAC Tournament championship.
