3rd Period Goals Give DU 4-3 Victory Over Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Davenport picked up its 6th straight win and 5th in the conference last night with a come from behind 4-3 victory over an always tough Oakland D3 hockey team. The Panthers are now 11-3 on the season and 5-0 in MCHC play.

Davenport started out the scoring in the first period with a goal from Mike Soto (Muskegon, Mich.), assisted by Sam Waldhart (Walker, Mich.). Up 1-0, Davenport would add another goal with one minute left in the period from Jake Williams (Jenison, Mich.). It would look like DU would take a 2-0 lead into the intermission but Oakland would answer right back with a goal in the final seconds to cut the lead to 2-1.

Oakland would use its momentum from the final seconds of the 1st period to take the lead with a goal at the fifteen minute mark and another one at the eight minute mark. Down 3-2, Davenport would battle back to even the score at 3-3 with a goal in the final three minutes from Jordan Phillips (Swartz Creek, Mich.).

Tied 3-3, Davenport would continue to battle and look to regain the lead. At the fifteen minute mark Zack Feher (Livonia, Mich.) would score the eventual game winning goal from teammates Phillips and Jordan Permoda (Wayland, Mich.).

John Cruse (Shelby Twp, Mich.) would get a well deserved win in the net for the Panthers with Oakland outshooting DU 40-30 on the night.

Davenport will travel to Jackson Community College tonight for a non-conference match-up. Game time is set for 8:00pm.
