Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport dropped it first game in MCHC play with a 4-3 loss to Oakland University. DU is now 12-4 on the year and 5-1 in conference play.
Playing for the third straight day the Panthers saw themselves having to fight from behind against a very solid Oakland team. The Grizzles would add goals at the six and five minute mark of the first period to take a 2-0 lead into intermission.
Davenport would come out firing in the second period adding a power play from
Taylor Keyworth (Grand Rapids, Mich.) to cut the lead to 2-1. Eight minutes later Oakland would answer back with a power play goal of their own to put the game back at a two goal lead.
Sam Waldhart (Walker, Mich.) would give DU some momentum before the end of the second period with a goal from
Mike Soto (Muskegon, Mich.).
Down 3-2, Oakland would once again make it a two goal game with another goal at the thirteen minute mark. Three minutes later on the power play captain
Chad Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario) would a goal for Davenport to make it a 4-3 game.
Unfortunately DU would be unable to put the puck in the net for the rest of the game and face their first loss in MCHC play. Oakland would outshoot the Panthers 38 to 31 in the game and
Tim Davis (Grand Rapids, Mich.) would get his first loss in net for DU.
Davenport will be back in action on Friday, November 12
th to take on Calvin College for a 7:30pm match up.
