Explosive 1st Period Gives DU 9-2 Victory Over Muskegon CC

MUSKEGON, Mich. – After being off for nearly two weeks the Panthers showed no signs of rust as they exploded with five straight goals in the first period in route to a 9-2 victory over Muskegon CC. Davenport is now 15-7 overall and 7-3 in MCHC play.

The first period was dominated by the Panthers. Five minutes in, DU's captain Chad Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario) scored the first DU goal from Bryon Guerin (Jackson, Mich.) and Sam Waldhart (Walker, Mich.). After a five minute major was called against Muskegon the Panthers would capitalize with three power play goals during the penalty.Mike Soto (Muskegon, Mich.)Jordan Steger (Caledonia, Mich.), and Dylan Downs (Hastings, Mich.) would all be credited with goals.

Soto would then strike again with three minutes left in the period for his second goal of the game, and give DU the 5-1 lead heading into the second period. In the second Muskegon would score its second and ultimately last goal of the night in the first few minutes. The Panthers would answer back with two more goals of their own in the period from Waldhart and Ben Duthler (Grand Rapids, Mich.).

Leading 7-2 after the second period Davenport would continue to add to their lead in the third. Waldhart would score his second goal of the night from Ouellette and Guerin. One minute later Norm Farr (Jenison, Mich.) would round out the scoring for DU from Garrett Garber to give the Panthers the 9-2 victory.

Davenport would outshoot Muskegon 55-33 and would end the night 4 for 6 on the power play.

The Panthers will be back in MCHC action next weekend when the take on cross-town rivals Grand Valley State on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game will be at Patterson Ice Center for an 8:00pm match, and both games can be heard live on “The DAN”.
