Feb. 22, 2010

Box Score

CLERMONT, Fla. - Davenport earned their third straight shut-out victory tonight defeating Goshen College 10-0. The Panthers are now 3-0 on the year and have outscored their opponents a combined 32-0.

The first four innings proved pretty quiet for both teams as Davenport headed into the fifth tied 0-0 with only two hits. The bats would then warm up for the Panthers as they would rally for four runs in fifth.

Morgan Greenfield (Wyoming, Mich.) would get the inning started after being hit by a pitch, and would advance to second on a sacrifice bunt from Katie Cornman (Eastpointe, Mich.). After a Haley Stehouwer (Wyoming, Mich.) walk, and single by Sandi Seaman (St. Clair Shores, Mich.), Ali Dawson (Galesburg, Mich.) would single to left to score two runs. Kristin Miedema (Newaygo, Mich.) would follow up with a two run triple to left field to put the Panthers up 4-0.

Davenport would add two more runs in the sixth inning off a double by Dawson, and then four more in the seventh inning with two RBI's from Seaman.

Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.) would get her first Davenport start and victory on the mound, pitching five innings and allowing just one hit with six strikeouts. Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) would close out the game for Carpenter with two innings pitched and five strikeouts.

The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow when they take on Webber International at the NTC Softball Complex. Game times are set for 11:00am and 1:00pm and will be broadcasted on "The DAN".
