Timely Hitting Sparks DU to Two Victories Over Webber International

CLERMONT, Fla. - Davenport University defeated Webber International today 10-2 and 5-4 in 8 innings. Davenport is now 5-0 on the year and will be back in action on Thursday, February 25.

In game one of the double header Davenport jumped out on the Warriors early scoring one run in the first and another in the third. Webber with answer with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third to tie up the score 2-2 after three innings.

Davenport would answer back with a three-run two rally in the inning. Ali Dawson (Galesburg, Mich.) would hit a bases loaded double to score to two runs, and then Katie Cornman would single to left field to push another run through. The Panthers would add one more run in the sixth, and then two more in the seventh on a two run homerun by Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.).

Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) would get the victory on the mound for DU after pitching four innings and giving up just four hits. Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.) would be created with a save as well after entering the game in the fifth inning and allowing no hits and no runs.

In game two Webber jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning which be the first time the Panthers would trail this season. In the second Davenport would close to gap after an RBI double from Kristin Miedema (Newaygo, Mich.), who would eventually score on a wild pitch to put DU down 3-2.

The Panthers would add two more runs in the third when Haley Stehouwer (Wyoming, Mich.) would score on a suicide bunt from Dawson. Brusokas would score on the next play off a RBI single from Katie Cornman (Lake Shore, Mich.) which would give DU the 4-3 lead.

Both teams would go score less for the next three innings until Webber would push a run through in the seventh inning to force the game into extra innings. With the international tie breaker rule in effect Dawson would end the game for DU with an RBI single to centerfield scoring Sandi Seaman from third base.

Cole would earn her second win of the day and third on the year after coming in the fourth inning.

Davenport will have tomorrow off before returning to action on Thursday, February 25th for three games. Game one will be against Goshen College at 9:00am, and then DU will take on Warner Southern for a double header at 2:00pm.
